‘Rat Poison’ remanded over fatal Central Village gun attack, case transferred to Gun Court

Forklift operator Devon ‘Rat Poison’ McPherson, who is charged with the murder of another man in Central Village, St Catherine, has been remanded and his case has been transferred to the Gun Court.

McPherson is charged with murder, conspiracy to murder, possession of a prohibited weapon, unauthorised possession of ammunition and using a firearm to commit a felony.

When the matter was mentioned on Friday, September 4, in the St Catherine Parish Court, Judge Genetta Smikle ordered that McPherson be remanded and transferred the matter to the High Court’s jurisdiction.

Allegations are that about 10:00 a.m. on August 18, Smith was standing near a shop on Tate Lane when he was pounced upon by two men armed with guns, who shot him repeatedly.

Smith reportedly ran and collapsed inside an unfinished building.

The men escaped on foot in the area.

The police were summoned and Smith was assisted to the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

An investigation was launched into the matter, which led to McPherson’s arrest and subsequent charge on August 28.

His alleged accomplice remains at large.
