GLENMUIR High have emerged as one of the top teams in this season’s ISSA daCosta Cup football competition, remaining unbeaten in both the daCosta Cup and Ben Francis KO competitions.

The Clarendon-based team, one of the highest-scoring sides this season, secured their place in Saturday’s Ben Francis KO final with a 2-0 victory over Dinthill Technical at home on the weekend.

Centre forward Orel Miller was the hero, scoring both goals to set up a final showdown with defending champions Clarendon College, who booked their place with a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Denbigh.

Having lost nine players from last year’s squad, Glenmuir have relied heavily on the experience of the 18-year-old Miller, who has been performing at the highest level for the team since he was 15.

The Gleaner caught up with Miller after Saturday’s victory, and he spoke about his expectations for himself and the team for the remainder of the season.

“I am very happy with the win and scoring both goals to help my team reach its first final of the season. I am looking forward to scoring more goals in the final,” he said.

As the most senior member of the team, Miller said he understands the importance of leading by example, while helping the younger players settle into the squad.

“Being the most senior member of the team, I have to lead from the front, and I am enjoying this role, helping the younger members to gel with the team,” he shared.

Miller is also confident that Glenmuir can challenge for all the titles on offer this season, despite the departure of several key players.

“Despite not having the big-name players like last year, we have a unified bunch, and once we listen to our coaches, the sky is the limit for us,” he said.

Playing most of their matches at home, Glenmuir have enjoyed strong support from their fans. Miller, however, said he does not feel any added pressure when playing in front of the home crowd.

“No, there is no pressure, as the fans have played a major role in motivating us,” he explained.

Miller also urged the supporters to continue backing the team as they prepare for Saturday’s final.

“I am asking the fans to continue coming out to support us, as we are going to make you all very proud this season,” he said.
