Gaynstead, Norman Manley on collision course

Gaynstead and Norman Manley high schools scored big wins in their latest Insports Challenge netball competition matches to remain unbeaten in Zone 1, setting up a gigantic clash when both teams meet in their final preliminary-round match on Wednesday at the Leila Robinson Court to decide the zone winners.

Gaynstead, led by good all-round performances from goal attack Taccora Uland, goal defence Sashane Smith, and centre Samoy Campbell, guided the Dalton Hinds-coached team to a massive 53-8 win over Vauxhall at the Leila Robinson Court last Thursday.

Playing at the same venue, Norman Manley, not to be outdone, stayed perfect with a 31-19 win over Camperdown, while Merle Grove squeezed by Ardenne 19-18.

Preliminary-round action will come to an end on Wednesday at the same venue, where the Zone 1 winners will be decided for seeding heading into the semi-finals. Gaynstead will meet Norman Manley at 3 p.m., with the winners set to top the zone.

In the other matches at the same venue, Vauxhall will face Ardenne, while Camperdown will take on Merle Grove.

In Zone 2 of the rural competition, both Denbigh and Jose Marti picked up their third straight wins to remain unbeaten. The top two teams will advance to the semi-finals.

Playing at home, Denbigh defeated Mile Gully 42-27, while Jose Marti got past May Day 49-31, and Dinthill defeated Bishop Gibson 46-37.

The preliminary round will also come to an end on Wednesday, with Jose Marti taking on Bishop Gibson and Denbigh facing Dinthill at GC Foster College at 1 p.m., while Mile Gully will play May Day at Manchester High.

Both Denbigh and Jose Marti, who played to a draw in their game earlier, are on seven points each. The Zone winners will be decided on goal difference for the semi-final seeding, with the semi-finals set for Friday.

Both teams will be hoping for convincing wins, as the second-place team will face the winners of Zone 1 in Friday’s semi-finals.
